Electronic leak detection in Hog Hatch

Tips from our surveys

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:

  • Ask contractors to protect the membrane
  • Stay off the flat roof unless needed
  • Record dates and spots where water appears
  • Find the breach before more patching

Wet insulation may need attention after a leak. That’s something to discuss with your roofer and other checks can help judge it.

Clear flat roof outlets regularly. Water that sits on the roof finds breaches faster.

Electronic leak detection in Hog Hatch: what you get

ELD suits many waterproofing membranes on flat roofs over offices, units, blocks of flats and homes. It helps trace a leak you already have or check a new membrane before handover. We quote for each roof based on its size and build-up. We can test on weekdays and at weekends, depending on the weather. Let us know about your roof to find out more. We survey commercial flat roofs, roof terraces and balconies and flat roof membranes, and people most frequently book us about breaches around outlets and penetrations and new membranes needing a check before handover.

In smaller places like Hog Hatch, flat roofs are mostly on extensions, garages, porches and dormers. Even a small flat roof can let a good many water into the room below. What it is covered in, and how well it was laid, decides what it needs, from felt and asphalt to EPDM rubber and GRP. From an upstairs window, look for standing water, splits and edges coming away.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

The survey, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes longer on a large roof than a small one, with the construction of the roof playing a part too. A visit to Hog Hatch is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. We agree the area to be tested.
  2. The surface is prepared for the chosen method.
  3. Testing runs across the agreed area.
  4. We mark the breach locations in our records.
  5. You receive the results to pass to your roofer.

Your questions about electronic leak detection in Hog Hatch

Is Hog Hatch in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Hog Hatch as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Will you come out to Hog Hatch?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you test a green or ballasted roof?

Sometimes. It depends on the build-up and the layers above the membrane and parts may need to be lifted. We talk this through first.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

What’s the best way to book?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies.

What electronic leak detection doesn’t cover

Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Sections we can’t safely access
  • Repairing the breaches (that’s for your roofer)
  • Leaks from plumbing or windows

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Commercial flat roofs
  • Liquid-applied waterproofing
  • Green roofs
  • Single-ply roofs
  • Roof terraces and balconies
  • Flat roof membranes

Do you need electronic leak detection in Hog Hatch?

New membranes can have defects from installation. Testing before the roof is covered or handed over helps find them.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Failed seams and laps
  • Punctures from foot traffic or tools
  • New membranes needing a check before handover
  • Repairs that haven’t stopped the leak

For an older house near a landmark like St Mark the Evangelist Church, the flat roofs on later extensions tend to wear out long before the main roof.

What to check before booking

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours

What to expect from a roof survey

Electronic leak detection around Hog Hatch

Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Alongside them, flat-roofed extensions, dormers, garages and commercial units are common almost everywhere. Historic houses such as Farnham Castle, about 0.9 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Hog Hatch goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

If you let a flat or house near Farnham station, flat roofs on let property tend to be checked only when they fail, which is the costly way round. If you look after a building such as Folly Hill Infant School, schools and public buildings often have big flat roofs, and their outlets and upstands need regular checks.

Hog Hatch is about 2 miles north of Farnham, in Surrey. Hog Hatch gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Across Surrey, we cover Hog Hatch and the places around it. Guildford is in our area too.

Checking the roof from the ground

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Why get it checked now?

Patching where you think the leak is often misses it. ELD shows the actual breach points. With lower homes, common in places like Hog Hatch, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

Every price we give includes VAT. We quote electronic leak detection for each roof, as the method and time depend on the roof. You’ll know the price for your roof before booking.
