Electronic leak detection in Myrke: what you get
ELD finds breaches in the membrane, not every cause of water getting in. Water coming through walls, copings, rooflights or plumbing will not show on the test. If the evidence points elsewhere, we will say so. The test shows breaches in the membrane, not water coming through masonry or around frames. The report makes clear what was and wasn’t tested. You’ll also know what to check next. We’re frequently asked to look into damp inside with no sign on the roof and leaks under green or ballasted roofs, on roof terraces and balconies, commercial flat roofs and flat roof membranes.
Flat roofs on exposed homes in small places like Myrke take more wind and rain, which is hard on edges, upstands and joins in the covering. Felt roofs, which frequently last around 15–20 years, normally show it first. EPDM rubber and GRP coverings last longer, but their edges and joints still need checking. Exposed edges are typically the first part of a flat roof to go.
The report does not just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What this survey can’t tell you
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Leaks from plumbing or windows
- Roofs whose membrane or build-up is not suitable
- Carrying out the repair work
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Flat roof membranes
- Liquid-applied waterproofing
- Single-ply roofs
- Roof terraces and balconies
- Green roofs
- Commercial flat roofs
What we’re asked to look at in Myrke
Seams are a common weak point in flat roof waterproofing. Small openings at laps can leak long before anyone notices.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Leaks through a covered membrane
- Leaking laps in the waterproofing
- Punctures from foot traffic or tools
- Waterproofing to test before it is covered
Take a building like Long Close School: ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season.
Questions to ask before you book
- What exactly goes into their report
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- What experience they bring
- Whether the price includes VAT
Electronic leak detection around Myrke
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Alongside them, flat-roofed extensions, dormers, garages and commercial units are common almost everywhere. About 1.2 miles south-west lies Windsor Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Myrke has been built on. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Hotels and guest houses near Myrke cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do. For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Laurence, flat-roofed rear additions and dormers added over the years are worth checking.

Myrke: your questions answered
Can you look at the flat roof of a hotel or office near Myrke?
Yes, we cover commercial roofs as well as homes. Access to the roof is sorted out with whoever manages the building before the day.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Myrke?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
What’s in the survey report?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, with photos throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How long will testing take?
It usually takes more time on a big roof than a small one, and the build-up of the roof makes a difference too.
How does ELD work?
It uses an electrical current to find breaches in a flat roof membrane. The current only gets through where the membrane is breached so we can pinpoint it.
Do you use low-voltage or high-voltage testing?
It depends on the membrane and the build-up. Low-voltage methods are normally carried out on a wet roof and high-voltage methods need the membrane dry and exposed.
What we look for on each type of roof
Liquid-applied waterproofing
What lies under a liquid coating decides if ELD will work.
EPDM rubber roofs
EPDM is a long-lasting flat roof membrane, but punctures and seam failures still happen.
What affects the cost of electronic leak detection
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Height and safe access
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
For a price for your roof in Myrke, phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.
What we need to know
Some details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- When you need the report by
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know the cost up front. We quote electronic leak detection for each roof, as the method and time depend on the roof. To book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
The survey, step by step
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photos. On timing, most surveys take a length of time set by the membrane area and the build-up, and we’ll give you a guide when quoting. Older roofs in small places like Myrke can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First, you let us know about the roof build-up and where water is showing.
- We check that the membrane and build-up suit electronic leak detection.
- We pick the low-voltage or high-voltage method that suits the roof.
- We test the membrane and find where current is passing through it.
- You get a report showing where each breach is, for your roofer to repair.
Getting ready for the survey
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Let us know about parking before the day

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
