Electronic leak detection for homes and businesses in Rose Hill
There are different ELD methods. Low-voltage testing is usually done with the surface wet, while high-voltage testing needs a dry, exposed membrane. The right method depends on the membrane and the build-up of the roof and we explain which we’ll use. We will say if your roof does not suit either method at the outset. Typical surveys look at leaking laps in the waterproofing and leaks through a flat roof with no obvious cause, across roof terraces and balconies, liquid-applied waterproofing and flat roof membranes.
Some older homes in villages like Rose Hill are listed or in a conservation area, which can shape what a new flat roof may look like. Check with the council before planning any change of material. Knowing the roof’s condition is the starting point. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

FAQs for Rose Hill
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Rose Hill?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you cover smaller places like Rose Hill?
Yes, Rose Hill is covered. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
What’s in the report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
How do I book a survey in Rose Hill?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What happens after the survey?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Useful tips for Rose Hill property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Keep a note of leaks after rain
- Do not let outlets block
- Consider ELD before paving or planting goes on
- Let us know about the membrane and build-up if you know it
If we think the leak is not coming through the membrane, the report says so, so other causes can be checked.
Keep people off the flat roof unless they need to be there. Many breaches come from foot traffic.
Why get it checked now?
A visual inspection can miss tiny holes. Electronic testing can find breaches you can’t see by eye where the roof suits it. Outbuildings and barns around Rose Hill are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Every price we give includes VAT. Electronic leak detection is quoted for your roof, because the method depends on the roof. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

What this survey can’t tell you
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Moisture spread under the membrane
- Water entering through details rather than the membrane
- Repairing the breaches (that is for your roofer)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Local flat roofs in Rose Hill
In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Flat roofs fill the gaps in between, on extensions, garages, dormers and business premises. Historic houses such as Glyndebourne, about 3.4 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Rose Hill goes. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.
If you own a rental within reach of Uckfield station, the flat roof over a let home is worth a look before it becomes a tenant complaint. Take a building like Ringmer Community College and Sixth Form: ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season.
Rose Hill is about 3 miles south-west of Uckfield, in East Sussex. Surveys in Rose Hill work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. How the survey works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes more time on a big roof than a small one, with the construction of the roof playing a part too. Around Rose Hill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- First, you let us know about the roof build-up and where water is showing.
- We check that the membrane and build-up suit electronic leak detection.
- We pick the low-voltage or high-voltage method that suits the roof.
- The roof is tested and any breaches are located.
- You get a report showing where each breach is, for your roofer to repair.
Getting ready for the survey
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice
What you can safely check yourself
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
How the survey changes by roof type
Liquid-applied waterproofing
What lies under a liquid coating decides if ELD will work.
Inverted and paved roofs
If the build-up rules out ELD, we will say so.
