Gutter Survey in Blackmoor
Wondering about the gutter at a property in Blackmoor? We carry out gutter surveys in Blackmoor and across Hampshire, with plain-English findings.
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
Gutter survey in Blackmoor: what you get
We check the rainwater system above ground level, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It’s not a CCTV drain survey and we can’t see inside buried drains. If the problem looks like a blocked or broken drain below ground, the report will say so, with a suggestion to book a separate drain survey. Anything we find above ground, like a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. We are frequently asked to look into blocked outlets and hoppers and overflowing valley or parapet gutters, across parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and fascias and soffits.
In a village or hamlet like Blackmoor, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, often with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the gutter, any defects and our written recommendations.

Blackmoor questions
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Liss station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Will you come out to Blackmoor?
Yes, Blackmoor is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
Whenever suits you. If water is already spilling over, book sooner rather than later as overflowing water can damage walls.
Is a CCTV drain survey included?
No. We look at above-ground rainwater only, from the gutters to the bottom of the downpipes. Where a below-ground drain seems to be the problem, we’ll tell you.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
How long will you be on site?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, and longer for larger or complex roofs.

Local roofs in Blackmoor
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whatever the covering, it is frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.
The streets around a church such as St Matthew's Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Anyone responsible for a site like St Matthew's Church of England Aided Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If you own a rental within reach of Liss station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

What this survey cannot tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
- Pipes below ground level
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Height and safe access
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Our price is from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.
Getting in touch
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- What’s prompted the survey
- Anything about access we should know
- What kind of property and roof it is
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To arrange a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Before and after the survey
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Check downpipe clips are holding
The report comes with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can pass it to whoever you choose to do the work so they can see exactly what’s needed.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They collect leaves and silt just like eaves gutters but you can’t check them from the street, so ask for them to be included when gutters are cleared.
Can I check my roof myself?
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
The survey, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In a hamlet or village like Blackmoor, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, you let us know what you’ve seen, like overflows or damp.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
- The loft space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
- The findings are written up with photographs and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Find any records of previous roof work
