New Roof Snagging in Chearsley
An experienced roof surveyor for new roof snagging in Chearsley. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and the South East.
- Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
- Untidy or loose verge details
- Underlay at the eaves left exposed
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
How new roof snagging works in Chearsley
Roof work frequently leaves debris behind. Offcuts, broken tiles and debris left in gutters or on lower roofs are noted, and for damage to other parts of the building. It’s all recorded with photos. Debris left in gutters and valleys can block them and damage to lower roofs can let water through. It is easier to raise them while the job is fresh. If you’re worried about damage to other parts of the building and poorly finished verges, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on loft conversions and dormers, new flat roofs and new-build homes alike.
For a small place like Chearsley, the visit is planned like any other: the journey, parking and access are simply agreed in advance. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages with roofs you’d like looked at as you book, so the visit can be planned around them. Whether you are buying or checking new work, the same care goes into it. Visits can be booked on any day of the week.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Local roofs and buyers in Chearsley
With Waddesdon Manor about 3.7 miles north, Chearsley sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whether you are buying or checking new roofing work, knowing the materials helps make sense of what the inspection finds.
If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Nicholas, the roof may have had decades of patch repairs, and the survey shows where they are.

Leave it or get it looked at?
A clear list of snags makes the conversation with your roofer easier. It keeps things factual. Around Chearsley, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Questions from Chearsley
Do you carry out roof surveys in Chearsley?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Is my home in Chearsley listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.
What if it rains on the day?
Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drones can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. We will rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
How soon after the work should I book a snagging inspection?
Once the roofer says the job is done, ideally before you pay in full. That gives time for any snags to be put right.
Can you see the fixings under the tiles?
No. We inspect what can be seen without opening up the roof, so fixings under the coverings can’t be checked. The report says what could and couldn’t be seen.
When you need someone else
A survey is a careful look at the new roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Details hidden from sight
- Settling a dispute with your roofer or builder
- Estimates of what fixes will cost
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flashings and valleys
- Loft conversions and dormers
- Ridges and verges
- New flat roofs
- New-build homes
- Replacement roofs
The survey, step by step
It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Around Chearsley, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- First, you tell us what the roofer did and any concerns you have.
- The coverings, ridges, hips and verges are checked as far as can be seen safely.
- Valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves are looked at.
- We look in the loft space, where there’s safe access, and around the property for debris or damage.
- You get a photo report listing the snags we found.
Before the survey
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Keep pets in another room
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice
When to book a survey in Chearsley
Vents can be left out, or insulation pushed against the eaves. Without enough airflow, condensation can build up in the loft space.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Flashings not properly dressed or fixed
- Cracked lower roofs or marked walls after the work
- Loose or badly finished ridge tiles
- Verge tiles or slates not secured
If you let a flat or house near Haddenham & Thame Parkway station, it’s worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
