Roof leak investigation in Kempshott
Our roof leak investigations cover Kempshott and the wider South East. We visit on any day of the week. We look inside and out, at flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters and flat roof details. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations. If it’s leaking right now, contain the water and keep it clear of electrics, and then call 07833 053749 or email us to arrange a visit. We survey the roof space, chimney stacks and lead flashings, and common reasons people get in touch are leaks below a flat extension roof and water marks that spread in wet weather.
Around Kempshott, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, at the flashings, the pointing or the mortar round the pots. Damp in a chimney breast can have more than one cause, so it is not always obvious where it starts. The stack, its flashings and the loft space beside it are all worth checking.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
FAQs for Kempshott
Will you come out to Kempshott?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Do you cover Kempshott?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Kempshott as anywhere else.
Do you use drones?
Yes, where it applies and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.
How quickly is the report sent?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.
What will the report tell me?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
What this survey can’t tell you
It helps to know what a survey won’t do before you book:
- Defects hidden under coverings or inside walls without opening up
- The repair itself (the investigation finds and reports the cause)
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roof details
- Rooflights and dormers
- Slate and tile slopes
- The roof space
- Lead flashings
How the survey works
It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours, more where the leak is intermittent or the roof is large. In a smaller place like Kempshott, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- You let us know where the water appears, when, and what the weather was doing.
- We examine the damp area and the rooms near it.
- From the roof space, we trace the water’s route where there is safe access.
- Outside, we check flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters and flat roof details from each safe vantage point.
- We email a written report showing where the water most likely gets in.
Preparing for the visit
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Helping us price your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £150, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Different roofs, different checks
Parapet and box gutters
We check the linings, joints and outlets where we can see them safely, and look for signs of past overflowing.
Chimney stacks
Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts at the top of the stack. Open, unused pots let rain fall down the flue.
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can get in
- Leave roof access to professionals
- Mention any plumbing above the damp area
- Take dated photos of the leak
The report gives whoever carries out the work a clear starting point. The photos show the defects and where they are, rather than at the stain.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. Blocked outlets on parapet and flat roofs cause many leaks. Use a professional rather than climbing up yourself.
Kempshott roofs and the weather
Historic houses like The Vyne, about 4.9 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Kempshott goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed.
For landlords with property near Basingstoke station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. If you look after a building like Kempshott Junior School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Saint Mark's Church, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
Kempshott is about 2 miles south-west of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. Whether the building in Kempshott is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. Kempshott is one of the places in Hampshire we cover. For surveys nearby, see our Reading page.
