About our storm damage roof report in Boreham

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Photograph the damage from the ground or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. We survey flat roofs, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and damaged pots on the stack.

Chimney stacks on older houses around places like Boreham can let water in, through worn flaunching, failed pointing or lifted flashings. Damp in a chimney breast can have more than one cause, so it is not always obvious where it starts. It is worth looking at the stack from outside and at the timbers beside it in the loft.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Boreham

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.

Leave it or get it looked at?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so there are no surprises later. Around Boreham, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.

The survey, step by step

We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to Boreham is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Advice

Useful tips for Boreham property owners

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Check your policy for how to report damage
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
  • Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage

For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. They can damage the roof in high winds.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. You’ll know the price for your roof before you book.

What to let us know when you contact us

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Where the property is, with the postcode

FAQs for Boreham

Is Boreham within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Boreham?

Yes, Boreham is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

There is no single figure. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Your policy document will say.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Can I check the roof after a storm?

Stay off the roof. Take photos from ground level or from windows. Record the date and any damage inside as well.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
