Storm damage roof report in Catslip

Our storm damage report starts from £150. It is a written report with photos, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for that. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause. We survey slate and tile slopes, chimney stacks and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damaged gutters and fascias and holes or cracks caused by debris.

For a small place like Catslip, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Catslip

With a portfolio of properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.

How we price storm damage roof reports

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Helping us price your survey

Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • The property’s address and postcode

Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Around Catslip, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building

Booking a survey

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Wind, rain and roofs in Catslip

Greys Court, about 2.2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Catslip. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

Landlords with a home close to Henley-On-Thames station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Bartholomew, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. If you look after a building such as Nettlebed Community School, a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside.

Catslip is about 7 miles north of Caversham, in Oxfordshire. Catslip gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. We cover towns and villages across Oxfordshire. Our Reading page covers surveys nearby.

Common questions in Catslip

Is Catslip within the area you cover?

Yes, Catslip is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.

Is my home in Catslip listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Do you act for me with my insurer?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

My storm claim was turned down. What now?

Complain to your insurer first. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. An independent report can add to your evidence, but we cannot say how it will turn out.

Can you tell me if my claim will be paid?

That’s not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • The outcome of a claim

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Flashings
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flat roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Gutters and fascias

What happens if roof problems are left?

Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. Our report can then add a clear record. Around Catslip, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
