Storm damage roof report in Causeway End: what you get
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We’re not loss adjusters, and we can’t tell you whether a claim will succeed. If you’ve noticed damaged flat roof membrane and damaged ridges and hips, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Causeway End, older cottages and farmhouses frequently have roofs that have been patched over many years. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. We look at whatever is safely visible and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.
It is not only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- How big the roof is
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The shape of the roof and its details
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What to tell us when you get in touch
There is no need for technical words. Just let us know:
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.
Can I check my roof myself?
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Wind, rain and roofs in Causeway End
There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask. In Essex, older buildings are often clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
If you look after a building such as Felsted Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Cross, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Causeway End questions
Will you come out to Causeway End?
Yes. Causeway End is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Is my home in Causeway End listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs aren’t included, so ask a roofer to quote.
What we do, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Older rural homes like those around Causeway End can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the loft space where it’s safe.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- We look at whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey

What we look for on each type of roof
Clay and concrete tiles
A missing tile lets rain reach the underlay. Each gap is recorded with a photo.
Chimney stacks
Stacks with existing defects tend to suffer more in storms. Our report notes recent damage and older defects.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or email us with the addresses.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Acting quickly typically means less damage overall. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Causeway End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.
