Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Charvil

High winds normally affect the parts of a roof that are already exposed or loose. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Trees and branches can also hit roofs in a storm. Our report records what has happened to your roof, with photos. Any older wear we can see is recorded as well. If you are worried about lead lifted at abutments and roofs hit by falling trees, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a smaller place like Charvil, some roofs face open ground, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. A leak that only appears in certain weather often points to an exposed detail. Let us know when it happens when you get in touch. The gutters on the most exposed side can overflow too.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

When to book a survey in Charvil

When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. Your insurer still makes the decision.

People typically book a survey after spotting something like this:

  • Gutters pulled loose in the wind
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
  • Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles

The streets around a church like St Patrick's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • What follow-up you get after the report

What a roof survey includes

Charvil: your questions answered

Will you come out to Charvil?

Yes. Charvil is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Charvil?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. The written report follows by email.

Who handles emergency protection after a storm?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. Our report then records the roof.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

The survey, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. If you have questions on the day, just ask. A visit to Charvil is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Advice

Wind, rain and roofs in Charvil

In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.

If you let a flat or house near Twyford station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Homes near green spaces such as Loddon Nature Reserve can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Why it is worth a survey now in Charvil

Damage left open lets in more rain. Further water damage can blur what the storm actually did. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. On a bungalow or cottage around Charvil, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Before and after the survey

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Keep receipts for any emergency work
  • Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in

The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. We don’t deal with the insurer on your behalf.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it’s better to know them up front. Bear these in mind:

  • Estimates of repair costs
  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
