Independent storm damage roof reports in Cowesfield Gate

Before and after the survey

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Check how your policy defines a storm
  • Check your policy for how to report damage

Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.

Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Overflowing gutters can make storm damage worse.

Storm damage roof report in Cowesfield Gate: what you get

Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We give an honest view of what we see. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. Common reasons to book are lead lifted at abutments and damaged ridges and hips, on ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias.

Many homes in small places like Cowesfield Gate face open ground, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Cowesfield Gate, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Advice

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. We note whether the mortar looks recently broken or long worn.

Chimney stacks

Wind can pull the flashings away from a chimney. We photograph any we find.

For landlords and managing agents

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, so they’re priced to suit.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Cowesfield Gate: your questions answered

Is my home in Cowesfield Gate listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is Cowesfield Gate within the area you cover?

Yes, Cowesfield Gate is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

What does a storm damage report cost?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it is applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.

Do you look in the roof space?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.

What a survey costs

We confirm the price for your survey before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • How big the roof is

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Helping us price your survey

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • Anything about access we should know

We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

What this survey cannot tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • Areas we cannot see safely
  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Negotiating a claim settlement

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flashings

Leaks and storm damage in Cowesfield Gate

Landford Manor, about 2.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Cowesfield Gate. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
