Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in East Stratton
Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies by policy. Your policy document sets out its own definition. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. Our part is recording the damage to your roof and its likely cause. The report includes photographs of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are often asked to look into damaged pots on the stack and broken or displaced guttering, on chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and ridges and hips.
Somewhere as small as East Stratton, older roofs have often been repaired many times. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, especially to an insurer. We check what can be seen safely and set out what we find. Older walls and timbers hold water for a long time, so it’s worth finding the cause soon.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Storm damage roof reports around East Stratton
Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of All Saints, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. If you let a flat or house near Micheldever station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Booking your survey
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- What made you get in touch
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.
How the survey works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Around East Stratton, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- We look at the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Preparing for the visit
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming

Why act early in East Stratton
With an independent report, you have something specific to show your insurer. It sets out what we found and the likely cause, alongside any photos you took yourself. In a small place like East Stratton, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
Old flashings that were already loose can give way in a storm. We record what looks recent and what looks older.
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. We note whether the mortar looks recently broken or long worn.
