Storm damage roof report in Northbrook
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: the ground, windows and vantage points, the loft where there is access, and the roof itself where that’s safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. We note any part we couldn’t see. You get a written report with photographs to give to your insurer. We survey ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are new damp or leaks inside and flashings pulled away from walls or stacks.
Somewhere as small as Northbrook, older roofs have often been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. We look at everything that’s safely in view and set out what we find. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What affects the price in Northbrook
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:
- The size of the roof
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your roof before booking.
Helping us price your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- The property’s address and postcode
- The kind of building and roof involved
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price before you book.
Checking the roof from the ground
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Questions from Northbrook
Is Northbrook within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Northbrook?
Yes, Northbrook is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Northbrook as anywhere else.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Please do not climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
Will you deal with the insurance company for me?
No. We aren’t loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
Different roofs, different checks
Lead flashings
When flashings lift, water can get behind them. We note where this has happened and any damp inside.
Slate roofs
Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, particularly where the nails have corroded. We record which slates have moved and any signs of older nail fatigue.
Common roof problems in Northbrook
Falling trees and branches can damage roofs in high winds. We record the damage and where it is, backed up with photos.
Typical things we’re asked to look at include:
- Flat roof edges peeled back
- Damaged gutters and fascias
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Micheldever CofE Primary School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- What happens after the report arrives
- Which limits apply to the survey
What a storm damage roof report doesn’t cover
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- The outcome of a claim
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Slate and tile slopes
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges and hips
- Flat roofs
- Flashings
- Gutters and fascias
What we do, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Rural addresses near Northbrook can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
How to book
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

Wind, rain and roofs in Northbrook
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it’s listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. If you own a rental within reach of Micheldever station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away.
