Why get it checked now?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. In a small place like Goddard's Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you get with us

  • Photos and a written report every time
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Package prices that include VAT
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help

Storm damage roof report in Goddard's Green

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It does not price the repairs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for that. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We’re frequently asked to look into damaged pots on the stack and damage from fallen branches or debris, on flat roofs, flashings and chimney stacks.

Roofs in small places like Goddard's Green frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photos is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How the survey works

You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Goddard's Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Before we arrive

  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

What we look for on each type of roof

Slate roofs

Broken slates and slates that have slid out of place are common after a storm. We photograph and describe each one.

Ridge and hip tiles

Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. We note whether the mortar looks recently broken or long worn.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Goddard's Green

With Stratfield Saye House about 3.7 miles south-east, Goddard's Green sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed.

If you let a flat or house near Mortimer station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Garland Junior School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.

Common questions in Goddard's Green

Do you cover smaller places like Goddard's Green?

Yes. Goddard's Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Goddard's Green?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Goddard's Green as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

The first step is a complaint to your insurer. If you are still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we can’t predict the outcome.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

What do I do if water is coming in?

A roofer should handle temporary protection. If it’s safe, take photos before it goes on. Our report then records the roof.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. You’ll then get the report by email.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

Landlords and agents in Goddard's Green book surveys as well as homeowners. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof.

DIY checks: what’s safe

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

Honest limits

A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • Areas we can’t see safely
  • Estimates of repair costs

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
