About our storm damage roof report in Liss
What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Your policy document sets out its own definition. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. The report includes photographs of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. The claim decision rests with your insurer. We survey ridges and hips, flat roofs and flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles and damage from fallen branches or debris.
Older cottages and houses around Liss may have roofs with little or no underlay. Without a sound underlay, any gap in the coverings lets water straight through. Finding where it gets in, and whether it’s old wear or new damage, decides what comes next. Wet battens and insulation in the loft are often the first clue.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

How we price storm damage roof reports
We confirm the price for your survey before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- The size of the roof
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings

- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

Liss questions
Is my home in Liss listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you cover smaller places like Liss?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Safely, from ground level or a window. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from the ground, and we will record the rest.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
Will you check the loft?
Usually, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
What this survey cannot tell you
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- How your policy defines a storm
- What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
- Negotiating a claim settlement
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

What else we do in Liss
Storm damage roof reports around Liss
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
Landlords with a home close to Liss station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Anyone responsible for a site like Liss Infant School will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. The streets around a church like Church of St Mary are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Liss
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Liss is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Before the survey
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Related advice
Can I check my roof myself?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
