Aldershot Storm Damage Roof Report
Storm damage roof reports in Aldershot and the rest of Hampshire. Surveys run on any day of the week.
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
How it works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. Semi-detached and terraced homes in a town like Aldershot often share a roof line with the neighbours, so shared parts are looked at as far as they can be seen from your property. Tell us about any known leaks, past repairs or building work when you book.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Storm damage roof report in Aldershot: what you get
A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It is a written report with photos, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We’re often asked to look into damaged flat roof membrane and stains appearing after strong winds, on slate and tile slopes, gutters and fascias and ridges and hips.
Strong winds lift loose tiles, slates and ridge pieces in towns like Aldershot as anywhere. What counts as a storm depends on your policy; many use gusts of around 55 mph. A report setting out the damage, with photos, helps you explain what you’ve found. Policies normally exclude wear and tear, which is why the age of the damage matters.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Landlords, agents and building managers in Aldershot and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or email us.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
What you can safely check yourself
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
Roof by roof
Lead flashings
Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.
Flat roof coverings
Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. Damage is photographed and described.
Aldershot: your questions answered
Do you carry out roof surveys in Aldershot?
Yes, Aldershot is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.
Is my home in Aldershot listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Let us know about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Please do not climb onto the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Note the date and time, and photograph any damage inside.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
How long is the visit?
That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Common roof problems in Aldershot
Gusts work at anything on a roof that is loose or exposed. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. Most people book a report soon after a storm, when they’ve seen damage or water has come in.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Slipped or missing slates or tiles
- Stains appearing after strong winds
- Flat roof edges peeled back
- Roofs hit by falling trees
Living close to Princes Gardens is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall.

Aldershot roofs and the weather
About 2.7 miles south-west lies Farnham Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Aldershot has been built on. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.
If you look after a building such as Talavera Junior School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. Landlords with a home close to Aldershot station may find that finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
