Storm damage roof report in Tongham
A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We survey flat roofs, chimney stacks and flashings, and the problems we are asked to look at most are gutters pulled loose in the wind and damaged ridges and hips.
Houses in smaller places like Tongham can stand more in the open, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. A leak that only appears in certain weather often points to an exposed detail. Let us know when it happens when you contact us. The gutters on the most exposed side can overflow too.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Why act early in Tongham
Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. An independent report can follow. Homes in smaller places like Tongham can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Wind gets under it and lifts more.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Tongham roofs and the weather
With Wanborough Manor about 3.1 miles east, Tongham sits in an area with a long building history. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Older houses across Surrey frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If you own a rental within reach of Ash station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. The streets around a church like Church of St Paul are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.
Tongham is about 1 mile south-east of Aldershot, in Surrey. We cover Tongham and the rest of Surrey. Tongham is one of the towns and villages in Surrey where we work. For surveys nearby, see our Guildford page.
Every address in GU10 is covered for storm damage roof reports. If you need a storm damage roof report at a property on The Street, Chester Way and Lambourne Way or a nearby road, we can survey it. Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (7 miles east), Woking (9 miles north-east), Camberley (7 miles north), Farnham (3 miles south-west), Frimley (6 miles north) and Haslemere (10 miles south).

Different roofs, different checks
Clay and concrete tiles
Tiles without fixings can move more easily in wind. We record what we can see of the fixings.
Ridge and hip tiles
Ridge and hip tiles take the full force of the wind. We record any that have lifted, cracked or come away.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Tongham
Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. An independent report gives you another view of the roof. What happens next is up to the insurer.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Loose or torn flashings
- Gutters pulled loose in the wind
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
If you look after a building such as St Paul's CofE Infant School & Nursery, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
- Keep a note of the date of the storm
- Keep receipts for any emergency work
- Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
The insurer might appoint a loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.
After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. With binoculars, you can often spot problems without climbing. Don’t go up a ladder to look.
For landlords and managing agents
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Questions from Tongham
Is my home in Tongham listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Tongham?
Yes, Tongham is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
My storm claim was turned down. What now?
The first step is a complaint to your insurer. If you are still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we cannot predict the outcome.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
The survey, step by step
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Parking around Tongham is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
Before we arrive
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
