New Roof Snagging in Tongham
Independent new roof snagging in Tongham. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Gutters or fascias damaged during the job
- Loose flashings at walls or chimneys
- Cracked or slipped new tiles or slates
Tips that help
Getting the most from new roof snagging starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Look for marks or cracks left by the work
- File all paperwork for the new roof
- Check the roof before you pay in full
- Tell your roofer the work will be inspected
Once the snags have been dealt with, keep the report with your roof paperwork. It is a dated record of the roof at handover.
Tell your roofer at the start that the work will be inspected. It sets clear expectations and leaves time for snags to be fixed.
New roof snagging in Tongham: what you get
Snagging means finding the small faults and loose ends left at the end of a job. On a roof, snags are often at the edges and junctions, where the detailing is hardest. We inspect as far as can be seen safely and record what we find. Loose ridges, untidy verges, badly dressed flashings and leftover debris are typical snags. If you’ve noticed damage to other parts of the building and cracked mortar at the ridge or hips, we can find out what’s behind it, on new-build homes, replacement roofs and flashings and valleys alike.
Houses in smaller places like Tongham can stand more in the open than those in a built-up town, which can mean more wind and rain on the roof. Ridges, verges and flashings are where that weather usually shows first. For a purchase or a new roof, those exposed edges are looked at closely. On an exposed roof, a loose ridge or verge soon becomes a bigger job.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Underlay and ventilation
We look in the loft space, where there’s safe access, at the underlay and ventilation.
Valleys
Debris left in a new valley can block it. Leftover debris is recorded.
Tongham homes and their roofs
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. For a purchase or a newly finished roof, the materials decide which details matter most. Wanborough Manor, about 3.1 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Tongham. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
The streets around a church like Church of St Paul are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, the roof’s history matters as much as its looks, and a survey brings the past repairs to light. For landlords with property near Ash station, it’s worth knowing a roof’s condition before you buy it, or before you sign off new roofing work on it.
Tongham is about 1 mile south-east of Aldershot, in Surrey. We survey roofs in Tongham and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and the South East. Tongham is one of the towns and villages in Surrey where we work. We also survey roofs in Guildford.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Tongham
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.
Why act early in Tongham
A clear list of snags makes the conversation with your roofer easier. It keeps things factual. Homes in smaller places like Tongham can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

FAQs for Tongham
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tongham?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Tongham?
Yes. Tongham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you look in the loft space?
Normally, if there is one and it can be reached safely. From inside, the underside of the roof frequently shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.
Is snagging available for a new-build house roof?
Yes, new-build roofs are checked in the same way as replacement roofs. You get a photo report of any snags for you to pass to your builder.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
The survey, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take between one and two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Homes around Tongham frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there is safe access, completes the picture.
- We start with what the roofer did and when they finished.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips and verges from safe vantage points.
- We look at valleys, flashings, gutters and the underlay at the eaves.
- The roof space and the rest of the property are checked for problems.
- You get a photo report of each snag.
Getting ready for the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Let us know about parking before the day
