Storm Damage Roof Report in Little Sandhurst
Storm damage roof reports in Little Sandhurst from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.
- Cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind
- Slipped or missing slates or tiles
- Broken or displaced guttering
Different roofs, different checks
Slate roofs
After strong winds, we often see cracked and slipped slates. We photograph and describe each one.
Ridge and hip tiles
The ridge and hips are among the most exposed parts of a roof. The survey notes loose, cracked or missing ridge and hip tiles.
About our storm damage roof report in Little Sandhurst
A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It is a report with photographs, sent by email. It does not price the repairs, so you’ll need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. We are often asked to look into broken or displaced guttering and flat roof edges peeled back, across chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and flashings.
Around Little Sandhurst, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, through worn flaunching, failed pointing or lifted flashings. Damp on a chimney breast is not always rain from above, which is why it’s worth tracing properly. It is worth looking at the stack from outside and at the timbers beside it in the loft.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Little Sandhurst: your questions answered
Will you come out to Little Sandhurst?
Yes, Little Sandhurst is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Little Sandhurst?
Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Little Sandhurst is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. Take photos from the ground first if it’s safe. Keep receipts in case your insurer asks for them.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Should I go up on the roof to take photos?
Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. With binoculars, you can see a lot from ground level, and we’ll record the rest.
How much is a storm damage roof report?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Little Sandhurst
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out by urgency where it matters, which helps when budgeting.
Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
What happens on the day
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Parking around Little Sandhurst is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photos.

Tips that help
Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
- Note the date and time you first saw the damage
- Check your policy for how to report damage
- Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
If a claim is declined and you disagree, the first step is a complaint to the insurer. After that, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Do not go up a ladder to look.
What this survey can’t tell you
It’s useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- Estimates of repair costs
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

- Ridges and hips

Storm damage roof reports around Little Sandhurst
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. If your home is older, it’s worth knowing whether it is listed or in a conservation area before planning roof work. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas.
If you own a rental within reach of Sandhurst station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Living close to Ambarrow Court is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. Take a building like New Scotland Hill Primary School: on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
