Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Malden Rushett

After a storm, safety comes first. Take photos from ground level or from windows, and do not climb onto the roof. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. We are often asked to look into broken or displaced guttering and torn or lifted flat roof coverings, on ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs.

Many London homes are well over a century old and their roofs have been patched more than once, so a new leak can be the latest sign of wear rather than a single event. Insurers typically exclude wear and tear, so it helps to know whether damage is old or new. That’s as true in Malden Rushett as anywhere in London. A written record with photos helps you explain what was found to whoever deals with it next.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Common questions in Malden Rushett

Is Malden Rushett in the area you cover?

Yes, Malden Rushett is within the area we cover. We work right across London and the South East. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Malden Rushett?

It rarely stops a survey, but it’s worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.

What’s the best way to book?

It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey seven days a week.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when you book.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.

Malden Rushett roofs and the weather

Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. If your home in Malden Rushett is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. With Fitznells Manor about 3.1 miles east, Malden Rushett sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you live near a park such as Claygate Common, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. For a London address like Malden Rushett, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day.

Malden Rushett is about 2 miles north of Ashtead, in Greater London. Malden Rushett gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Our Greater London coverage includes Malden Rushett and the places around it. We also survey roofs in Guildford.

Why get it checked now?

Knowing whether older wear played a part helps you understand your position. We record storm damage and older defects, so there are no surprises later. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Branches and trees frequently come down on roofs during storms. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, backed up with photos.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Slipped or missing slates or tiles
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Holes or cracks caused by debris
  • Damaged ridges and hips

  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What a good roof survey covers

What this survey cannot tell you

It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Acting for you with the insurer
  • What’s beneath slates, tiles or membranes
  • A decision on your insurance claim

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flashings
  • Ridges and hips
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Slate and tile slopes

Different roofs, different checks

Slate roofs

Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, particularly where the nails have corroded. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Chimney stacks

High winds can loosen pots, cowls and aerials on stacks. The report notes any damage to the stack.

What happens on the day

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Malden Rushett we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
