Martins Heron Storm Damage Roof Report
An experienced roof surveyor for storm damage roof reports in Martins Heron. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.

- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
Tips that help
Getting the most from a storm damage roof report starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Note the date and time you first saw the damage
- Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. We do not deal with the insurer on your behalf.
After a storm, look at the roof from the street or garden. With binoculars, you can often spot problems without climbing. Never climb onto the roof yourself.
Storm damage roof report in Martins Heron
After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. We then record the damage in a report you can pass to your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. Typical surveys look at flashings pulled away from walls or stacks and gutters pulled loose in the wind, on chimney stacks, gutters and fascias and slate and tile slopes.
Around Martins Heron, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, through worn flaunching, failed pointing or lifted flashings. Damp on a chimney breast isn’t always rain from above, which is why it is worth tracing properly. It’s worth looking at the stack from outside and at the timbers beside it in the loft.
The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What you can safely check yourself
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Martins Heron questions
Will you come out to Martins Heron?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
My home in Martins Heron has a flat-roofed garage or porch. Is it worth having that looked at?
Normally, yes: let us know about it when you book so the visit can include it. Many homes in new towns like Bracknell have flat-roofed garages and porches, and felt roofs frequently last around 15–20 years.
Is wear and tear covered by insurance?
Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so it’s clear what we found. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
That is not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Do you act for me with my insurer?
No. Our report is an independent record for you to use. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.
My storm claim was turned down. What now?
Complain to your insurer first. If you’re still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we can’t predict the outcome.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Martins Heron
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Which survey package you book
- Roof area
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.
Booking your survey
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- What’s prompted the survey
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
- The address and postcode of the property
Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
Wind, rain and roofs in Martins Heron
Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Martins Heron is part of Bracknell, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes in the new towns date from the post-war decades, with concrete interlocking tiles, low-pitched roofs and flat-roofed garages and porches. Leaks on homes like these frequently come from flat-roofed additions or from rain driven up under low-pitched tiles.
For businesses in and around places like The Lexicon, a quick answer on where water is coming in keeps a business running. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Harmans Water Primary School, tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you live in an older home near St Paul, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Martins Heron is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from the ground and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Why it is worth a survey now in Martins Heron
Many policies expect damage to be reported promptly. Check the wording and tell your insurer as soon as you can. Our report can then add a clear record. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Martins Heron, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
