Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Thorley Street

Is Thorley Street within the area you cover?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Thorley Street?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Thorley Street as anywhere else.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when booking.

What if the roof was already worn?

Wear and tear is not normally covered. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. Your insurer decides the claim.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. You’ll then get the report by email.

Storm damage roof report in Thorley Street

Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We survey gutters and fascias, chimney stacks and flashings, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are flat roof edges peeled back and slates and tiles blown off the roof.

Roofs in small places like Thorley Street frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

How the survey works

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere as small as Thorley Street, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Check the loft hatch can be reached
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Roof by roof

Slate roofs

In high winds, slates can slip or go, often where nails have rusted. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Clay and concrete tiles

A missing tile lets rain reach the underlay. We photograph each gap.

For landlords and managing agents

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps with budgets and planning.
