Storm damage roof report in Ware, Hertfordshire
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Ware, and put it all in a written report with photographs.

- Damaged gutters and fascias
- Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
Storm damage roof report in Ware: what you get
We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. If part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. We survey slate and tile slopes, gutters and fascias and ridges and hips, and common reasons people get in touch are damage from fallen branches or debris and water coming in after the storm.
When a storm passes over a town like Ware, loose tiles, slates and ridges are the first to move. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, though it varies. Photographs and a written account help you show what happened, whether to an insurer or a roofer. Because wear and tear is usually excluded, the age of any damage matters.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What this survey cannot tell you
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- How your policy defines a storm
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
- Flashings
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Flat roofs
The survey, step by step
Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. A visit in Ware runs most smoothly with the loft hatch clear, side gates open and a parking spot in mind. Someone needs to let us in, so tell us who that will be.
- First we go through when the storm hit and what you’ve noticed.
- The roof is inspected from safe positions.
- Each area of damage is photographed and described.
- The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
- We send you the report by email for your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Why get it checked now?
It’s useful to get a record soon after the storm, while the damage is fresh. Later weather and temporary repairs can make it harder to see what happened. Extensions and dormers on homes around Ware often hide the first signs of trouble at their joints with the main roof. Left for a few seasons, it can spoil plaster, skirting and flooring inside.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
Why book with us

Roof by roof
Clay and concrete tiles
Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. Each gap is recorded with a photo.
Lead flashings
Flashings with older defects frequently fail in high winds. We record what looks recent and what looks older.
Ware roofs and the weather
What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
If you own a rental within reach of Ware station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer right away. Take a building like Christ Church CofE (VA) Primary School and Nursery: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. The streets around a church such as Christ Church Ware are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
- Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. We don’t deal with the insurer on your behalf.
Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.
Ware: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Ware is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is there anything to prepare before you come to Ware?
Clear the way to the loft hatch if there is one, and let us know about any leaks, stains or past repairs. Let us know about parking and access in Ware too.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
How experienced are you?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Our reports start from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. Repair costs aren’t part of the report.
Is wear and tear covered by insurance?
Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. Our report records storm damage and any older wear we see, so you know what the roof shows. Your insurer decides how its policy applies.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
