How a storm damage roof report works in Titmore Green

Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. We survey gutters and fascias, flashings and slate and tile slopes, and the problems we are asked to look at most are damaged flat roof membrane and broken or displaced guttering.

For a small place like Titmore Green, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Somewhere like Titmore Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. You receive the written report with photographs.

Titmore Green: your questions answered

Is my home in Titmore Green listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you come out to Titmore Green?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you look in the roof space?

If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. We’ll confirm the timing as you book.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

Will my insurer pay for an old roof?

Wear and tear is not usually covered. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. The claim decision is your insurer’s.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Storm damage roof reports in Titmore Green: local notes

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts. The wider area around Titmore Green has a long history of building, with Knebworth House about 3.7 miles south. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary the Virgin: leaks on older roofs often start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wymondley Junior Mixed and Infant School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Checking the roof from the ground

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.

Why get it checked now?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so you know what the roof shows. Older and listed buildings around Titmore Green may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
