Signs you need a storm damage roof report in Twyford

Insurers often want evidence of what has been damaged and why. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. The decision still rests with the insurer.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
  • Damage from fallen branches or debris
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Water coming in after the storm

The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
  • What insurance they carry
  • What exactly goes into their report

What’s in a roof survey

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Twyford

A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. It sets out what is damaged, with photos, and what we think the likely cause is. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot tell you whether a claim will succeed. We survey gutters and fascias, flat roofs and slate and tile slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are stains appearing after strong winds and loose or broken chimney pots and cowls.

Being in a small place like Twyford makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:

  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs
  • Slate and tile slopes

Leave it or get it looked at?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so there are no surprises later. In a small place like Twyford, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

Why book with us

How it works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a small place like Twyford, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Preparing for the visit

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice

Roof by roof

Flat roof coverings

Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. We record any damage and where it is.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. Each gap is recorded with a photo.

Wind, rain and roofs in Twyford

Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it’s listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.

Homes near green spaces like St. Cross Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn. For landlords with property near Shawford station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

Common questions in Twyford

Do you cover smaller places like Twyford?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Do you cover Twyford?

Yes. Our area covers London and the South East, and Twyford is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Bigger roofs are quoted on size and access. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. We are not loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage, which you can pass to your insurer.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

How we price storm damage roof reports

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Roof area
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Height and safe access

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Getting in touch

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
