Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Badger Farm
What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Check your own policy wording. We do not decide whether a storm met that test. Our part is recording the damage to your roof and its likely cause. The report includes photos of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. The claim decision rests with your insurer. If you’ve noticed roofs hit by falling trees and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, we can find out what’s behind it.
Around Badger Farm, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, through worn flaunching, failed pointing or lifted flashings. Damp on a chimney breast isn’t always rain from above, which is why it’s worth tracing properly. The stack, its flashings and the loft space beside it are all worth checking.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

Storm damage roof reports in Badger Farm: local notes
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.
Living close to St. Cross Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stanmore Primary School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Badger Farm means lost rooms as well as repairs.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Badger Farm
Do you carry out roof surveys in Badger Farm?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Will you come out to Badger Farm?
Yes, Badger Farm is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
What if my insurer declines the claim?
The first step is a complaint to your insurer. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, though we can’t predict the outcome.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Is wear and tear covered by insurance?
Wear and tear is not normally covered. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. The claim decision is your insurer’s.
How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?
There’s no single figure. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Your policy document will say.
Practical tips
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Photograph the damage safely from below
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
- Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
The insurer might appoint a loss adjuster. Our report gives you an independent record alongside theirs.
Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. They can damage the roof in high winds.
When you need someone else
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Your insurer’s view of the claim
- Negotiating a claim settlement
- The outcome of a claim
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Flashings
- Flat roofs
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
- Slate and tile slopes
- Ridges and hips
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
How the survey works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, like stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. For a survey in Badger Farm, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
- We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Getting ready for the survey
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
