- What made you get in touch
- Anything about access we should know
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will talk you through the options and what they cost.
How a storm damage roof report works in Bar End
After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We aren’t loss adjusters, and we can’t say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. If you’ve noticed new damp or leaks inside and cowls or aerials dislodged in the wind, we can find out what’s behind it.
Roofs in small places like Bar End often stand in the open, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, so it pays to find the cause quickly. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Bar End?
Strong winds lift loose or poorly fixed slates and tiles, ridge pieces and flashings. Rain can then blow in where slates or tiles have gone. Most people book a report soon after a storm, when they’ve seen damage or water has come in.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Loose or torn flashings
- Water coming in after the storm
- Roofs hit by falling trees
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
If you look after a building such as All Saints Church of England Primary School, on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.
Before you book anyone
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
What this survey can’t tell you
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
- A decision on your insurance claim
- Estimates of repair costs
If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Bar End
Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, ideally before any re-roofing is planned. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.
If you live in an older home near All Saints, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. If you let a flat or house near Winchester station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.
Bar End is about 1 mile south-east of Winchester, in Hampshire. From houses to flats and shops in Bar End, the roof can be surveyed. Bar End is one of the towns and villages in Hampshire where we work. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

FAQs for Bar End
Will you come out to Bar End?
Yes. Bar End is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How do I find out if my home in Bar End is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
My storm claim was turned down. What now?
Raise it with your insurer first. If it isn’t resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman asks about storm conditions, whether the damage is consistent with a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
That is not something we can promise. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. What we provide is an independent record of the damage.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.
How are storm damage reports priced?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report does not include repair costs.
How it works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Around Bar End, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- You receive the written report with photographs.
Before we arrive
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch

Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Keep receipts for any emergency work
- Read your policy wording on storm damage
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.
A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.
