Storm damage roof reports for Wildhern homes and businesses

About our storm damage roof report in Wildhern

Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. We survey slate and tile slopes, flat roofs and gutters and fascias, and people most often book us about flat roof edges peeled back and damaged pots on the stack.

For a small place like Wildhern, the inspection is the same as anywhere: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. Older roofs in small places like Wildhern can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.

How to prepare

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Keep pets in another room

Roof by roof

Ridge and hip tiles

A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. We photograph and describe the damage.

Clay and concrete tiles

Tiles can lift, crack or blow off in high winds. We record which are damaged and where.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Wildhern

Will you come out to Wildhern?

Yes. Wildhern is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you cover Wildhern?

We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to.

How long does the survey take?

Most surveys take an hour or two on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The report follows by email.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that does not resolve it. The Ombudsman asks about storm conditions, whether the damage is consistent with a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Insurers normally exclude wear and tear. Our report gives an honest view of what’s recent damage and what’s older wear. Your insurer decides the claim.

Before and after the survey

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Read your policy wording on storm damage
  • Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so

Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. You will have your own independent record to refer to.

Have overhanging branches looked at by a tree surgeon. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.

What this survey cannot tell you

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Repair costs or quotes for the work
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
  • How your policy defines a storm

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Gutters and fascias
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flashings
  • Flat roofs

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Wildhern?

Storms don’t only affect pitched roofs. Coverings can tear or peel back at the edges, and water can pond where outlets are blocked. Our report covers flat and pitched roofs.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
  • Water coming in after the storm
  • Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls

The streets around a church like Christchurch are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

What to check before booking

  • What the survey will not cover
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What’s in a roof survey

Checking the roof from ground level

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Wind, rain and roofs in Wildhern

What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

If you look after a building such as Hatherden Church of England Primary School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. If you own a rental within reach of Andover station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.
