Asheridge Thermal Roof Survey
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Asheridge and across Buckinghamshire.
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
How a thermal roof survey works in Asheridge
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photos, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. We survey loft conversions, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damp around chimneys and parapets and damp patches with no obvious cause.
In a village or hamlet like Asheridge, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, useful for planning maintenance.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.
How the survey works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes about one to two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Around Asheridge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
You can pass the report to a roofer so they can see where the problem areas seem to be. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.

Airspace, weather and Asheridge roofs
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
Take a building like Chartridge Combined School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Cholesbury Manor House lies about 1.7 miles north, so building around Asheridge goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.
Asheridge is about 2 miles north-west of Chesham, in Buckinghamshire. Asheridge is one of many places we visit across Buckinghamshire, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Our Buckinghamshire coverage includes Asheridge. Our Milton Keynes page covers surveys nearby.

Common questions in Asheridge
Do you cover Asheridge?
Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Asheridge is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details.
Do you cover smaller places like Asheridge?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The camera records how the surface temperature varies. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat loss. We check what it shows with moisture readings.
Do you use drones?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when booking.
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Asheridge
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Water that travels before it shows
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Cold areas below the roof
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St John's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
What to check before booking
- What happens after the report arrives
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- When you will get the report
- Their insurance cover
Why get it checked now?
The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Older and listed buildings around Asheridge may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
