Beaumont Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Beaumont, from an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photos.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
How a thermal roof survey works in Beaumont
A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We survey flat roofs, pitched roof slopes and loft conversions, and people most often book us about damp patches with no obvious cause and missing or slipped insulation.
Older buildings in small places like Beaumont may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Junctions where roofs meet walls, parapets and valleys are common places for water to get in. Thermal imaging can help show damp patterns around them.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below often show. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.
When you need someone else
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A formal energy assessment
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we check
- Commercial roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
Surveys for landlords and agents in Beaumont
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.
We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
When to book a survey in Beaumont
Once a leak has been fixed, people often ask whether the roof is still wet. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped, given suitable conditions on the day.
People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St Leonard, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What exactly goes into their report
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What follow-up you get after the report
- What the survey won’t cover
How the survey works
We will ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Around Beaumont, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Leave side gates unlocked
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
Getting a price
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Thermal roof surveys around Beaumont
Beaumont is within about 2 miles of the coast, and coastal wind can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
With Thorpe Hall about 2 miles south, the area around Beaumont has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself.
Beaumont is about 5 miles south-west of Harwich, in Essex. We cover Beaumont and the rest of Essex. Beaumont is one of the places in Essex we cover. You can also see our page for Chelmsford.

Questions from Beaumont
Do you carry out roof surveys in Beaumont?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do you cover smaller places like Beaumont?
Yes, Beaumont is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone can’t prove a leak.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Can a thermal camera see water?
No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
DIY checks: what’s safe
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
