Hearnden Green Thermal Roof Survey
An experienced roof surveyor for thermal roof surveys in Hearnden Green. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and South East England.
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Cold areas below the roof
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
Useful tips for Hearnden Green property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, like electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
About our thermal roof survey in Hearnden Green
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks frequently run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings do not rely on the camera alone. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and insulated roof spaces, and people most often book us about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and cold areas below the roof.
Villages like Hearnden Green often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

When you need someone else
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- A formal energy assessment
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Confirming water without moisture readings
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
Checking the roof from ground level
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Different roofs, different checks
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are frequently laid over insulation boards. If water gets under them, thermal imaging can suggest which boards are wet.
FAQs for Hearnden Green
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hearnden Green?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Hearnden Green is about 3 miles from Headcorn Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
How do I find out if my home in Hearnden Green is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Hearnden Green?
Simply call 07833 053749 or email us with the address. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.
What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Cottages and farmhouses around Hearnden Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before we arrive
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Related advice
Leave it or get it looked at?
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Combining the camera with moisture readings can help find it, rather than more guesswork. Older and listed buildings around Hearnden Green may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

Thermal roof surveys in Hearnden Green: local notes
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. Leeds Castle, about 4.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Hearnden Green. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
