Thermal roof surveys near Idbury

About our thermal roof survey in Idbury

Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and commercial roofs, and people most often book us about water that travels before it shows and ceilings that feel colder in places.

Villages like Idbury frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Idbury?

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. The Premium Survey brings thermal imaging and a drone inspection where it applies, with a report the same day, which suits a purchase that’s moving quickly.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water

Whatever the street in Idbury, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs

What a roof survey includes

Tips that help

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
  • Do not switch the heating off ahead of the visit

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There’s a 12-month follow-up too.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Insulation is often moved when people work in the loft space.

Thermal roof surveys in Idbury: local notes

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

When you need someone else

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs

What we look for on each type of roof

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

Single-ply PVC, TPO and EPDM roofs are often laid over insulation boards. Wet boards can show as temperature differences on the images.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Water under felt or asphalt can stay hidden for years. Thermal imaging helps suggest where it is, given suitable conditions on the day.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take between one and two hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. Rural addresses near Idbury can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

FAQs for Idbury

Is my home in Idbury listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover Idbury?

Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Idbury is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details.

Do you use drones?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
