Need a thermal roof survey in Mersham?

Different roofs, different checks

Pitched slate and tile roofs

Inside the roof space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Felt and asphalt sit tight to the layers below, which often helps the camera pick up differences. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.

How a thermal roof survey works in Mersham

A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated areas can stand out on the images. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. It isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. If you’ve noticed wet areas near outlets and upstands and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and flat roofs alike.

Villages like Mersham frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What happens if roof problems are left?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. Older and listed buildings around Mersham may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Mersham: your questions answered

Is Mersham in the area you cover?

Yes. We work right across London and South East England, and Mersham is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property.

Will you come out to Mersham?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.

How long does the survey take?

It typically takes an hour or two for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. The written report follows by email.

Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?

It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there is safe access.

What’s the best way to book?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey seven days a week.

What insurance do you have?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

The survey, step by step

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Cottages and farmhouses around Mersham frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Mersham

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • How big the roof is

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

What we need to know

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.

Tips that help

Small things make a difference. Some pointers:

  • Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather
  • Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings

You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.

Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is often moved when people work in the loft space.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

If you own several properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, including offices, shops and units. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

Airspace, weather and Mersham roofs

The wider area around Mersham has a long history of building, with Westenhanger Castle about 4.7 miles east. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you run a business near Ashford Designer Outlet, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mersham Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
