What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys
To price your survey, we look at:

- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It helps to include:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

Thermal roof survey in Moor Park
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves frequently show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. We survey flat roofs, insulated roof spaces and pitched roof slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are patches of heat loss across the roof and damp that repairs haven’t cured.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at, in Moor Park as anywhere. Let us know about the building and access as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What happens on the day
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Moor Park moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.
- You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Getting ready for the survey
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Practical tips
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There’s a 12-month follow-up too.
Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.

Moor Park questions
Is parking a problem for a survey in Moor Park?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
Is drone flying allowed in Moor Park?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What conditions are best for thermal imaging?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
It can help narrow down where water may be getting in. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It’s used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera cannot confirm water on its own.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we combine it with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
For landlords and managing agents
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.

DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Thermal roof surveys in Moor Park: local notes
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. On a semi of that age, the small roofs over the bays, the hip tiles and any later dormer each need their own look. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Moor Park, along with any off-street space. Take an older house close to Holy Trinity Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you run a business near Harlequin Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

What we can’t see
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- A formal energy assessment
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Proving moisture from the images alone
