New Denham questions

Is drone flying allowed in New Denham?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Denham Aerodrome is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.

How do I find out if my home in New Denham is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.

Will I get photos?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.

How quickly is the report sent?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

About our thermal roof survey in New Denham

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. We are often asked to look into damp that repairs haven’t cured and ceilings that feel colder in places, across flat roofs, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes.

Older buildings in small places like New Denham may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • What kind of property and roof it is

The survey, step by step

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Older rural homes like those around New Denham can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Tips that help

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • File the images with your roof records
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. There is a 12-month follow-up too.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Surveys for landlords and agents in New Denham

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

Flying and imaging in New Denham

Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. New Denham is about 3 miles from Denham Aerodrome. Where the drone is part of the survey, the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions first.

Anyone responsible for a site like Hermitage Primary School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Shop and office owners around The Pavilions may find that a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. With Ickenham Hall about 2.1 miles east, the area around New Denham has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
