Thermal Roof Survey in Ruislip Gardens
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you spend money on it. Thermal roof surveys in Ruislip Gardens, with photos and a clear written report.
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
What we look for on each type of roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
About our thermal roof survey in Ruislip Gardens
A thermal survey is not a quick fix for every roof problem. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something can’t be confirmed, we say what would help next. If you are worried about damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys and heat escaping through the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every address in Ruislip Gardens is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Airspace, weather and Ruislip Gardens roofs
About 1.3 miles west lies Ickenham Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Ruislip Gardens has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Outer London has plenty of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
If you look after a building like Ruislip High School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For businesses in and around places such as The Chimes, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you live in an older home near Church of St Paul, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What a survey costs
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Getting in touch
What helps most when you contact us:
- Anything about access we should know
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What kind of property and roof it is
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
When you need someone else
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- A formal energy assessment
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- File the images with your roof records
- Let us know where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Check outlets after heavy rain
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. In time, it stops insulating properly and can damage the deck. Finding them early can mean a smaller job. Any roof job in Ruislip Gardens means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.
All our prices include VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before booking.

The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. The survey normally takes about 1–2 hours for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Surveys in Ruislip Gardens can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Find any records of previous roof work

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Ruislip Gardens
Is drone flying allowed in Ruislip Gardens?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Ruislip Gardens is about 1 mile from RAF Northolt, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, and the rest of the survey does not depend on the drone.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ruislip Gardens?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it’s safe.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. Surveys run on any day of the week.
