Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Staplecross
Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. Common reasons to book are cold spots on ceilings under the roof and gaps in loft insulation, across loft conversions, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof.
Somewhere as small as Staplecross, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The report does not just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

FAQs for Staplecross
Is Staplecross within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you cover Staplecross?
Yes, Staplecross is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Staplecross as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can be useful, though pitched roofs are typically harder to read. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know as you book.
Does the report include photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Whether we can fly on the day depends on the weather and the airspace rules, and we check for restrictions near airports before flying. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Why get it checked now?
Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Around Staplecross, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it’s left.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

What affects the price in Staplecross
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Booking your survey
These details help when you contact us:
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Anything about access we should know
- When you need the report by
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Keep a record of when stains appear
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Staplecross
About 2.4 miles south lies Durhamford Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Staplecross has been built on. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Marks Staplecross, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. Anyone responsible for a site like Staplecross Methodist Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.
What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In a hamlet or village like Staplecross, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
