Walton Court Thermal Roof Survey
An experienced roof surveyor for thermal roof surveys in Walton Court. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
Practical tips
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
If you’re buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
How a thermal roof survey works in Walton Court
Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. This can give an idea of how far water has travelled beneath the membrane, which is hard to judge by eye. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. If you are worried about water that travels before it shows and gaps in loft insulation, we can find out what’s behind it, on insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and commercial roofs alike.
Around Walton Court, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from ground level.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we look for on each type of roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they cannot.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there’s a pattern around them.
Airspace, weather and Walton Court roofs
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
If you look after a building such as Ashmead Combined School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Good Shepherd, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

When to book a survey in Walton Court
Once a leak has been fixed, people frequently ask whether the roof is still wet. Thermal images and moisture readings can suggest whether moisture is still trapped when the conditions on the day are suitable.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Leaks that are hard to trace
Shop and office owners around Friars Square may find that large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

DIY checks: what’s safe
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
How the survey works
We will ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a survey in Walton Court, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice
FAQs for Walton Court
Do you cover Walton Court?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Walton Court as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Walton Court?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Can a thermal camera see water?
The camera doesn’t see water itself. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, and moisture readings are used to check it.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it’s safe.
What do I do with the report?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only if it’s safe. We check everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Why act early in Walton Court
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. In a smaller place like Walton Court, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing does not stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
