Thermal roof surveys near West Thurrock

DIY checks: what’s safe

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in West Thurrock

Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are frequently harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. Typical surveys look at damp around roof outlets and upstands and water getting in at parapets and stacks, on insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.

Even in a smaller place like West Thurrock, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind, while thermal imaging also works best with little wind. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

The survey, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around West Thurrock, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.

  1. You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

West Thurrock questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in West Thurrock?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you cover smaller places like West Thurrock?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?

It often helps show where to look. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. It’s used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings because the camera can’t confirm water on its own.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.

What affects the price in West Thurrock

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof

If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in West Thurrock

People frequently book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. A leak may start well away from where the stain appears. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Wet areas near outlets and upstands

Rainham Hall, about 4.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around West Thurrock. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours

How the survey changes by roof type

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Damp at junctions can be hard to see by eye. A careful visual inspection goes alongside the images.

Glossy GRP can reflect heat. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
