Tilbury Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tilbury. More than 5,000 surveys completed across London and South East England.
- Stains that keep coming back
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. For a survey in Tilbury, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tilbury
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. It’s useful to have a sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast as you book, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. If you’ve noticed water that travels before it shows and moisture around outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on insulated roof spaces, flat roofs and loft conversions alike.
Older cottages and houses around Tilbury may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Tilbury
Once insulation under a membrane is wet, it tends to stay wet. Over time, it insulates less well and can harm the deck. Finding them early can mean a smaller job. Blocked gutters on homes around Tilbury overflow and soak walls, especially where trees overhang. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.
Why book with us
- Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
- A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Independent findings on the roof’s condition
- Packages from £150, with VAT included
Tilbury: your questions answered
Do you cover Tilbury?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and Tilbury is part of that. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is Tilbury within the area you cover?
Yes. Tilbury is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
Conditions on the day have a big effect on what the camera can show. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
How long does the survey take?
It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. It shows most clearly when it is warm inside and cold outside. We look from the loft as well, where there is safe access.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
What else we do in Tilbury
How we price thermal roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- Which survey package you book
- How big the roof is
- House, block, shop or office
- The shape of the roof and its details
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.
What we need to know
A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or email us and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We will explain the options and the price.
What we look for on each type of roof
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Problems where roof slopes and walls meet are frequently hidden. We combine a close visual check with the thermal images.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Useful tips for Tilbury property owners
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Check outlets after heavy rain
- Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.
Drones, thermal imaging and Tilbury roofs
The coast is about 2 miles or less from Tilbury, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Lakeside Shopping Centre, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If you look after a building like The Gateway Academy, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
