Thermal roof survey in Wooburn Green
Thermal imaging is useful when a damp patch has no clear cause. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. The images are used alongside a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings don’t rely on the camera alone. If you’ve noticed leaks that are hard to trace and possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Around Wooburn Green, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Keep dated photos of any marks on ceilings
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. We explain what each image may mean, with our recommendations. Premium reports are sent the same day.
Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
What we’re asked to look at in Wooburn Green
Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Gaps in loft insulation and poorly insulated roof areas can show up on the camera, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Wooburn Green Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Whether the price includes VAT

What else we do in Wooburn Green
Thermal roof surveys in Wooburn Green: local notes
With Cliveden about 2.6 miles south, Wooburn Green sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you run a business near Eden, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera. Take an older house close to St Mary's Pastoral Centre: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
Heat loss shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and colder outside. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Inside the loft space, thermal images can help with damp around stacks, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.
For landlords and managing agents
We survey roofs for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed beforehand. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.
What this survey can’t tell you
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Loft conversions
What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey usually takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Wooburn Green is booked with the forecast in mind: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.
