Eastrop Chimney Survey
Chimney surveys across Eastrop, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. You get a clear report with photographs.
- A stack that appears to lean
- Unused flues sealed without airflow
- Damp patches on chimney breasts
When to book a survey in Eastrop
Chimney stacks stand above the roof, exposed to wind, rain and frost on every side. Frost works into cracks in the flaunching and pointing, and rain soaks into worn brickwork. Most people book after spotting damp or a loose pot, or before buying.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Cracked or missing flaunching
- Mortar washing out of the joints
- Bricks with flaking faces
- A chimney out of line
The streets around a church such as Church of St Mary are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

Chimney survey in Eastrop: what you get
A chimney survey is about the outside of the stack and the roof around it. It’s not a flue inspection, a chimney sweep or a gas safety inspection. For the flue itself, you’ll need a sweep or, for gas appliances, a Gas Safe registered engineer. We’ll tell you if we see anything that suggests they should take a look. We are often asked to look into loose, cracked or missing pots and a chimney out of line, across brick chimney stacks, shared and party-wall stacks and chimney breasts.
Around Eastrop, older cottages sit alongside bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. Chimneys, valleys and gutters on older homes frequently need the most attention, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. The fixings under an older roof frequently fail before good slates or tiles do.
The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.
When you need someone else
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Checks on boilers, fires or their flues
- Whether a stack needs rebuilding on structural grounds
- Whether the flue is safe to use
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

The survey, step by step
The visit has one job: to see as much of the chimney stack as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes between one and two hours at a house, as part of a look at the roof around the stack. A visit to Eastrop is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- Each stack is inspected from safe positions outside.
- We photograph and record the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
- We look for damp on chimney breasts and in the roof space.
- The report, with photographs and recommendations, is emailed to you.
Before the survey
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

What a chimney survey looks like in Eastrop
With The Vyne about 2.9 miles north, Eastrop sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them.
Homes near green spaces such as Eastrop Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Festival Place, knowing the roof’s condition lets you budget for work rather than pay for emergencies.

Common questions in Eastrop
I let a flat near Basingstoke station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Do you cover smaller places like Eastrop?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
How much does a chimney survey cost in Eastrop?

How long does the survey take?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. We’ll confirm the timing as you book.
When does the report arrive?
Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when you book.
How we price chimney surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:
- Which survey package you book
- The shape of the roof and its details
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Helping us price your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- What made you get in touch
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
How the survey changes by roof type
Lead flashings
Some older stacks have mortar fillets instead of lead. They crack with age, and we check them too.
Brick stacks
Spalled bricks, where the face has flaked off, are a sign of water and frost. We record any we can see.
