About our drone roof survey in Ardley

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we’ll say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and people most frequently book us about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and storm damage on steep or tall roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Ardley may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

Ardley questions

Is drone flying allowed in Ardley?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Ardley within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What will the report tell me?

It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How fast do I get the report?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

How we price drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Which survey package you book

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What we need to know

These details help when you contact us:

  • When you need the report by
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Common roof problems in Ardley

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What to check before booking

  • When you’ll get the report
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Whether the price includes VAT

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes an hour or two for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere like Ardley needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Preparing for the visit

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs

Tips that help

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
