Drone roof surveys in Bloodden

About our drone roof survey in Bloodden

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. Typical surveys look at debris building up in hidden gutters and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.

Older buildings in small places like Bloodden may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Flying and imaging in Bloodden

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. The wider area around Bloodden has a long history of building, with Goodnestone Park about 1.5 miles east. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Innocents, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Adisham Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it is something only an inside check will show. Make sure insulation doesn’t block the airflow.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

We confirm the exact price before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

What we need to know

A little information up front helps. It’s useful to include:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • What made you get in touch
  • The property’s address and postcode

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the details.

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

What happens on the day

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Bloodden, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. For older village homes like those around Bloodden, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. We will say if a specialist is needed.

Large commercial roofs

Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Bloodden: your questions answered

Will you come out to Bloodden?

Yes. Bloodden is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Are there drone restrictions around Bloodden?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there is safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging, as far as the space allows.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We will confirm the timing when you book.
