Drone roof survey in Canterbury
Drone roof surveys are available in Canterbury and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. Common reasons to book are outlets choked with leaves and silt and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, across chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Weather decides a lot: a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal images are clearest after a sunny day, on a dry roof, with little wind. For a roof in Canterbury, the day is chosen with the forecast in mind. Some parts of a visit, like a look in the loft, don’t depend on the weather.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Questions from Canterbury
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Canterbury?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you cover Canterbury?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Canterbury as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you as you book.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Let us know about it as you book and we will explain what’s needed.
How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Canterbury?
Just ring 07833 053749 or email us. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
What insurance do you have?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
Typically, it takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.
What a drone roof survey does not cover
Every survey has limits, and it’s better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What happens on the day
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Where a building in Canterbury has a manager or access rules, those are sorted out before the day. At home, it helps to clear a route to the loft and point out any stains or leaks. The written report follows, with photos.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Let us know about parking before the day

What a drone roof survey looks like in Canterbury
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Margaret are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Hotels and guest houses near Canterbury can’t easily close rooms for a leak, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. Take a building like St Peter's Methodist Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Why get it checked now?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. Roofs in a place the size of Canterbury range from new to very old, but none of them improve with neglect. A loose ridge, a cracked flashing or a blocked outlet is a small job today and a bigger one after a wet winter.

Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.
Before and after the survey
Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Tell us the exact address when booking
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photos are included where we could fly.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
