Drone roof survey in Thanington

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. If you’ve noticed wind damage high on the roof and standing water on a flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In smaller places like Thanington, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Questions from Thanington

Do you cover smaller places like Thanington?

Yes, Thanington is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Thanington?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

How long will you be at the property?

Allow between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation often show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

No, the camera is kept on your roof. Neighbouring homes and gardens aren’t the subject. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

When you need someone else

A survey is a close look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs

What happens on the day

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Homes around Thanington often have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Booking your survey

A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.

DIY checks: what’s safe

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Airspace, weather and Thanington roofs

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Thanington has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels frequently sit under flat roofs. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Nicholas, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Canterbury Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you run a business near Whitefriars Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.
