Drone roof surveys for Bridge homes and businesses

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

How a drone roof survey works in Bridge

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. Safety comes first on every visit. Typical surveys look at debris building up in hidden gutters and eroded pointing on a chimney stack, across valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs.

Villages like Bridge often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

Bridge: your questions answered

Will you come out to Bridge?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is drone flying allowed in Bridge?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Bridge?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Bridge?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.

When you need someone else

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.

How it works

Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Bridge can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property

How to book

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Bridge

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, putting the urgent items at the top.

Tips that help

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.

Airspace, weather and Bridge roofs

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Historic houses like Goodnestone Park, about 4.4 miles east, show how far back building around Bridge goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Shop and office owners around Whitefriars Shopping Centre may find that big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
