Signs you need a drone roof survey in Broomhill

Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. From the ground, you rarely see cracked flaunching or loose pots. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof

Anyone responsible for a site like Wingham Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What’s in a roof survey

About our drone roof survey in Broomhill

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We’re often asked to look into coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and storm damage on steep or tall roofs, on valleys and parapet gutters, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Broomhill, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How we price drone roof surveys

We confirm the exact price before booking. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • The roof’s overall size
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Around Broomhill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Broomhill

Do you cover smaller places like Broomhill?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is drone flying allowed in Broomhill?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How long will you be at the property?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access when you book.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Broomhill

Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Historic houses like Goodnestone Park, about 2.5 miles south, show how far back building around Broomhill goes. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
