Drone roof survey in Wingham

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We are often asked to look into vegetation in valleys and gutters and standing water on a flat roof, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks.

Some older homes in villages like Wingham are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How it works

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Wingham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. We also look inside the roof space where it’s safe.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Booking a survey

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Checking the roof from the ground

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

What we cannot see

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Drones, thermal imaging and Wingham roofs

Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail. The wider area around Wingham has a long history of building, with Goodnestone Park about 2 miles south. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like Wingham Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What a survey costs

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before you book.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Anything about access we should know

A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it is not a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we will tell you.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. From above, standing water, splits and tired upstands are clear.

Questions from Wingham

Is drone flying allowed in Wingham?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Will you come out to Wingham?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How quickly is the report sent?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We will confirm the timing as you book.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included.

Do you look in the loft space?

If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Let us know the exact address when you book

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
