Independent drone roof surveys in Well Head

Drone roof survey in Well Head

Drone roof surveys are available in Well Head and throughout London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. Common reasons to book are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs.

Somewhere as small as Well Head, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Well Head: your questions answered

Will you come out to Well Head?

Yes, Well Head is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

How do I find out if my home in Well Head is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

In some places, only with permission. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. Every address is checked first.

What if it’s windy or raining on the day?

The flight waits for better weather. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report, and it does not include calculations. If we see signs that need an engineer’s opinion, we will recommend one.

What we do, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Well Head, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Arrange a survey

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Tips from our surveys

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Book early if you are near an airport

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drone roof surveys around Well Head

Across Kent, older roofs are frequently handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. Kent’s older buildings take in oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses as well. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

With Goodnestone Park about 1.6 miles south, the area around Well Head has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. If you look after a building such as Wingham Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

What affects the price in Well Head

To price your survey, we look at:

  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Roof area
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What we need to know

You don’t need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them

We survey roofs on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and the days you’d prefer.

When you need someone else

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
